Lambeth & Southwark Primary Schools Football League (L&SPSFL)

Welcome to the Lambeth & Southwark Primary Schools Football League (L&SPSFL), the heart of youth football in our community. Since our inception, we have been dedicated to providing structured, competitive, and enjoyable football opportunities for young players in primary and junior schools across Lambeth and Southwark.

Our league is built on the values of teamwork, fair play, and community spirit. We aim to create a welcoming environment where boys and girls can develop their football skills, form lasting friendships, and experience the thrill of competitive matches.

OUR HISTORY

The Early Years (1997–2000)
The L&SPSFL kicked off in 1997/98 with ten Lambeth primary schools. Sudbourne Primary of Brixton claimed the first-ever league title, setting the tone for years to come.

By 1998/99, the league had grown, with Elm Wood clinching Division 1 on goal difference. However, team variations year-to-year made ability-based divisions unsustainable. The league adapted, removing goal difference as a decider and restructuring to maintain fairness.

In 1999/00, 18 schools joined across North and South divisions. Elm Wood beat Corpus Christi 2-0 in a thrilling final, as the league continued to grow—despite the odd rain-soaked pitch!

Growing the Game (2000–2010)
By 2000/01, the league adopted a formal constitution, committing to fun, competitive football that instilled teamwork and respect.

With more schools joining, venue challenges emerged. Most matches moved to South Bank University Sports Ground in Dulwich, offering better pitches and facilities for players and families alike.

Support also grew, with a £1,000 grant from the South East London Community Foundation helping cover pitch hire and keep football accessible.

The league formed strong links with South London Schools FA, giving standout players chances to represent districts and even be spotted by professional scouts.

Community Impact (2010–Today)
Now welcoming schools across Lambeth and Southwark, the league continues to offer inclusive football for boys and girls of all abilities.

Our annual 7-a-Side Tournament is a standout event, giving young players the chance to shine in a fun, supportive environment.

A dedicated Girls’ League ensures more girls get game time and opportunities to develop skills and confidence.

The league remains a vital community pillar—promoting sport, teamwork, and resilience, on and off the pitch.

Looking Ahead
Our mission is simple: to provide structured, fun football for primary school children across Lambeth and Southwark. With continued support from schools, parents, and the wider community, the best is yet to come.
